More bird names

mi jmina so'u se stidi co le cpicme bau la lojban.
Here are a few more suggestions for Lojban bird names.

(Is this getting through to the list?)

I also have some ideas for mammal names.

7. le ke'acpi (Troglodytidae)

"Cave bird" might have been a more a suitable name for cave swallows or
oilbirds, but (mi jinvi) a fu'ivla for "wren" based on the Latin family
name would be too long for such a common bird. Although potentially
misleading, "cave bird" does suggest the Latin name, which means "cave
dweller". One species in particular, le ke'acpi pe la biu,ik. =
(_Thryomanes
bewickii_), is the source of the name Thryomanes, so I might use "la
ke'acpi" from time to time as an alternate name for myself.

8. le bifcycti (Meropidae)

"Bee-eater" is a logical name for these birds which are called =
"bee-eater"
in English, "Bienenfresser" in German, and "gu=EApier" in French.

9. le mantycti (Myrmecophagidae)

Along the same lines, "ant-eater" is an obvious name for anteaters, and =
in
this case is even consistent with the Latin name.

10. le cipnrdjei (_Garrulus glandarius_ and related members of Corvidae)

This fu'ivla (is "cpirdjei" legal?), although from English "jay", also
suggests the sound of the French "geai". A common North American bird is
le blanu cipnrdjei (_Cyanocitta cristata_).

11. le latcribe (_Ailuropoda melanoleuca_)

This is a direct translation of the Chinese word for panda.

12. le xancribe (_Procyon lotor_)

Raccoons aren't bears, but the German for raccoon is "Waschb=E4r", and =
the
only other gismu that are relatively close are gerku, labno, and lorxu. =
I
suggest "hand-bear" to draw attention to the raccoon's hands, but
"lumcribe" is also a possibility.
